West End Apartment - Work in Progress

The Brief:

To create a relaxing and low maintenance ‘home from home’ for an international client who frequently visits Glasgow.

Initially the apartment needs to serve as a low maintenance holiday home to relax within and enjoy the city, but the design must also lend itself to full time living in the future.

Strong emphasis on natural materials, textural interest and layered lighting, with a cooler colour palette throughout the interiors.

Glasgow Film Studio - Work in Progress

The Brief:

Design the non-filming spaces for the conversion of a derelict warehouse to a commercial film studio.

The Client has taken over a 1.1 million sqft site containing 13 warehouses, all of which have been of mixed use for the last 30 years. The Brief was to create a design for the first of the 13 conversions, which can also form a site-wide ‘brand aesthetic’ as they refurbish the remaining 12 warehouses over the next 3 years.

Warehouse 1 is currently a derelict building, but has a rich past and some incredible original features which have survived years of exposure to the elements. We opted to restore the original elements which have survived the test of time, and lean-in to the rich industrial history of the site when making new material and furniture selections.

Spaces designed include: Entrance lobby, executive offices, creative workshops, board rooms, canteen and colleague toilets.

Perthshire Apartment

The Brief:

Design and manage the full refurbishment of a 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Perthshire. All materials, furniture and artwork was to be sourced and procured by Fairgray Design.

The apartment was to be a sophisticated space where the outdoorsy owners could retreat to after a long walks in the Perthshire hills. The interiors were to be comfortable, stylish and connected to nature, whilst also being robust enough to withstand muddy boots and have storage for outdoor gear.

The client was clear they wanted and airy interior, with blue and brass accents, but not to be nautical. We took a picture of Loch Tay in Autumn as our inspiration for the colour palette and the design evolved from there.

A note from the clients…

“We purchased a 3 bedroom property and hired Fairgray Design to redecorate and modernise the apartment. They suggested a change in layout for the living space which transformed the dining room/living room/kitchen area into a space which is much more usable and relaxing to be in. This is something that we had never considered when we purchased the property and demonstrates Gordon’s eye for design vs function. From the initial discussions, through concept design, and until the end, Gordon always talked us through his ideas or suggestions and took time to really understand our aims for the renovation. The final design of the flat was fresh, dynamic, and finished to a high standard. This was the first time we have used a designer and our only concern is whether Gordon has availability for the next time we move! “

Skye Cottage

The Brief:

Create a relaxing rural retreat on the Isle of Skye that connects with the wilderness of the Island, but also provides a relaxing sanctuary from the elements.

The design needed to maximise the incredible views, providing external space to enjoy, as well as a luxury interior to take refuge and relax by the fire.

The client loves Danish design and wanted to incorporate a few key pieces throughout the property. The palette was to be very earthy and neutral to compliment the hillside colours, but not detract from incredible views.

Woodlands Apartment

The Brief: A light renovation of a compact city ‘crash-pad’ in the West End of Glasgow.

We used punchy colours to give the apartment character, and to serve as a backdrop for accessories which were kept in muted, natural tones.

The kitchen cabinets were wrapped in Matt white vinyl and new worktops and splash-back added to freshen the kitchen, while keeping the budget in mind.

Some IKEA pieces were paired with Danish pieces to give a touch of sophistication to the interiors. All woodwork was kept Beech throughout the property and some carefully selected accessories and furniture compliment the Beech wood tone.
